Business today is image driven. Photos are key in social media posts, blog posts and for product sales. Smart phones have made taking these needed photos easy, however often the size of these photos is well beyond what is needed. Using images with a large file size can slow down your website dramatically. Sites like Etsy for selling product often have size limits. That means what used to be the domain of a graphic designer needs to be part of a home business owner’s arsenal now. You should be downsizing your images. The good news is, it’s not hard.
On Windows computers
Windows comes with a program called Paint. Paint can help you not only reduce your image size, but crop your photo as well. It’s also a pretty simple process as you can see in the tutorial below:
On your smart phone:
If you want to be able to post reduced-sized photos directly from your phone, you’ll need an app for that. The Image Size app is what you’re looking for. It’s available for both Android and iOs and it allows you to resize and crop those photos right on your device. It also allows you to add text if you’re looking to create the next viral meme.
So what size should you be downsizing your images to?
If you’re dealing with a social media platform, they have standards for ideal image sizes. An ideal blog post size is 1200 pixels wide by 675 pixels high. Product sales sites like Etsy will have their own ideal image size standards, simply do a quick search in the support section for them.
Do yourself, your social media platforms, your website and/or your product sales platform a favor and learn to downsize your images.
