How to Breathe New Life into Old Blog Posts

started blogging in 2004. Back then if there was a picture included with your post you were ahead of the curve.  It’s not 2004 anymore.  While the actual content of your posts is still the most important thing, it’s not the only thing.  Visuals are becoming more and more important when it comes to blogging.  In fact, I’ve seen an increase in the use of a visual aid that some people were declaring would be killed off by video.  What visual aid is that?

The slideshow.

Yes, I’m talking PowerPoint (or Keynote if you’re a Mac).  More specifically I’m talking about taking still pertinent information from old blog posts and repackaging it in the form of a slidedeck like I did below:

The truth is, if you’ve been blogging awhile some great information has become buried in your archives. Which is sad because it could still be helping people.  Creating short abbreviated slideshows based on those old posts gets that information back in front of your audience.  It also allows you to create visually fun new blog posts.

Don’t have PowerPoint or Keynote?  No excuses.  Google Drive has a presentation feature, Microsoft offers PowerPoint through Office Online or Office 365Canva also allows you to create presentations (although I had some glitches using it for my 6 Reasons slidedeck, review to come).

Once you’ve created your slidedeck, depending on what you’ve used to create it, you can prepare it and embed it into your blog posts. Google and Office Online give you an embed option.  If you’re creating in PowerPoint, Keynote or Canva you can use a service like Slideshare or AuthorStream.

If you want to extend the life of your blog content, consider turning your best stuff into visually appealing slideshows.   Then turn them into new blog posts or fantastic social media posts.  You’ll be glad you did.

Let’s work together to breathe new life into your blog posts![/servicebox]
